The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory about a recently confirmed outbreak of Ebola disease in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

Currently, no suspected, probable, or confirmed Ebola cases related to this outbreak have been reported in the United States, or outside of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. However, as a precaution and because there are other viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) outbreaks in East Africa, CDC is sharing best practices for public health departments, public health and clinical laboratories, and healthcare workers in the United States to raise awareness about this outbreak.

On July 24, 2026 CDC issued a Travel Health Notice Level 2: Practice Enhanced Precautions for people traveling to Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. Currently, CDC has restricted travelers, including Americans, who have been in DRC within 21 days of their flight will not be allowed to board commercial flights with U.S. destinations. All U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who have been in the DRC should plan to remain outside DRC for 21 days before entering the United States. U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who have been present in Uganda or South Sudan (and not present in DRC) within 21 days of arrival in the United States must only enter through designated airports for enhanced screening.

CDC continues to monitor for any emerging Ebola outbreaks. Please visit CDC’s Ebola (Ebola Virus Disease) Outbreaks website for a list of any current or past outbreaks.
