Those interested in receiving WIC benefits may also continue to apply for the program.<\/p>\n<p>If your family is in need of more assistance with purchasing healthy food, we encourage you to utilize the following resources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your local foodbank and pantries<\/li>\n<li>The Feed More Hunger Hotline (804-521-2500)<\/li>\n<li>The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) (804-786-0532)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedingamerica.org\">Feeding America<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/211virginia.org\">Virginia 211<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Supporting families with healthy food is still a public health priority and we look forward to continuing to assist you and your family!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Being pregnant or breastfeeding a baby is a big job.\u00a0 The Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) can help.\u00a0 The objective of the WIC Program is to prevent the occurrence of health problems and improve the health status of those served.\u00a0 The WIC Program can help pregnant, breastfeeding or post-partum women, infants, and children in low income or no income families.\u00a0 WIC will provide, at no cost, nutritious foods to supplement their diet, information on healthy eating and referrals for health care.<\/p>\n<p>WIC provides benefits for these participants during critical times of growth and development.\u00a0 WIC teaches them\u00a0how to choose and prepare nutritious and affordable foods.<\/p>\n<p>An applicant must qualify financially and nutritionally to receive WIC benefits. In order to determine eligibility, the applicant must provide proof of income and have a gross income within the income guidelines set by the USDA.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please call (757) 518-2789.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong id=\"WhatIs\">What is WIC?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WIC is a special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture.\u00a0 WIC helps pregnant women, post-partum and breastfeeding mothers, infants (newborn \u2013 11 months) and young children (less than 5 yrs.) stay healthy and eat right during times of important growth.<\/p>\n<p>Our mission is to work with communities to provide nutrition and health information, resources, and support to encourage choices for healthy living.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What WIC offers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"square\">\n<li>Personalized nutrition assessments and education<\/li>\n<li>Referrals to medical and social service agencies<\/li>\n<li>Breastfeeding support<\/li>\n<li>Supplemental nutritious food<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility is determined by the following 4 criteria:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>1.\u00a0 Categorical<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Pregnant\/Postpartum women<\/li>\n<li>Breastfeeding mothers<\/li>\n<li>Infants less than 1 year old<\/li>\n<li>Children less than 5 years old<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>2.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Residential<\/em><\/strong> - proof of residency includes one of the items below, but is not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Current\u00a0Virginia driver's license<\/li>\n<li>Current Medicaid card<\/li>\n<li>Business mail with Virginia address - such as a phone or utility bill<\/li>\n<li>Rent of mortgage receipts, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are <strong>in the military and just moved to Virginia<\/strong>, the following items may also be used as proof of residency:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>A letter from the Company Commander on official letterhead<\/li>\n<li>Copy of official Department of\u00a0Defense orders with Virginia installation assignment; or<\/li>\n<li>Leave &amp; Earning Statement (LES) listing Virginia as the service member's\u00a0Home of Record<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>3.\u00a0 Financial Eligibility<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Must fall below 185% of the Federal Proverty Level<\/li>\n<li>Enrollment in TANF, FAMIS, Medicaid, SNAP\/Food Stamps, Free\/Reduced Prices Lunches automatically qualify with proof of enrollment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>4.\u00a0 Nutritional <\/em><\/strong>- assessments are done to determine a nutrition risk such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Medical conditions may include anemia, inadequate weight gain during pregnancy, weight\/height over 95 percentile for children or other health complications.<\/li>\n<li>Failure to meet dietary Guidelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/131\/2021\/10\/Income-Guidelines-2021_2022-Lisa-Anderson.pdf\"><strong id=\"WIC_Income\">WIC Income Guide<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-pdfemb-pdf-embedder-viewer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/131\/2021\/10\/Income-Guidelines-2021_2022-Lisa-Anderson.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"width:400px;height:400px;\" data-width=\"400\" data-height=\"400\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">Income Guidelines 2021_2022 -
