SUMMARY:VHHA Layering the Defense for MDRO Prevention: EDCC Alerts and the *New* VDH Communication Guide
DESCRIPTION:Every patient transfer includes dozens of critical safety details into a single handoff moment. Among the most consequential: a patient’s infection status — including pending laboratory results\, known colonization or active infection with a multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO)\, and the transmission-based precautions currently in place. If these details are not shared this can lead to potential exposures for both healthcare workers and patients\, which can then lead to costly contact investigations for hospitals. \nThis webinar seeks to share two layers of protection to prevent these miscommunications from occurring: the brand-new MDRO Communications Guide from the Virginia Department of Health and optimizing the use of the MDRO Flags in the Emergency Department Care Coordination System (EDCC). Preventing miscommunications in patient transfers takes many types of tools\, and we are pleased to highlight these two for healthcare workers from across Virginia. \nSponsored by: The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (Quality & Patient Safety – VHHA)\, Virginia Health Information (Emergency Department Care Coordination (EDCC) ⎸ VHI)\, and the Virginia Department of Health (Multidrug-Resistant Organisms (MDROs) – HAIAR).
