The Three Rivers Health Medical Reserve Corps began in 2008. Volunteers support the health district in both emergency and non-emergency situations. The MRC collaborates with local hospitals, local county governments, the American Red Cross, and community emergency response teams (CERT) to increase capacity in emergencies. The MRC also participates in education, training, and exercises. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vamrc.org\/\">For more information or to volunteer<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>MRC units throughout the state actively improve and protect their community\u2019s public health by supporting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Health education and preventative health screenings.<\/li>\n<li>Efforts to provide medical services to at-risk populations.<\/li>\n<li>Communicable disease outbreak response.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer emergency preparedness training and exercises.<\/li>\n<li>Local, state and national response to terrorism attacks and disasters; providing staffing support for medical services, emergency shelters, mental health outreach, dispensing sites for medications and vaccinations, disease investigations and environmental health efforts for food and human safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To become a VA Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer, please submit an application in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vamrc.org\/vvhs\">Virginia Volunteer Health System<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions about Three Rivers' MRC program, please<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> <a href=\"mailto:Jonathan.Matthews@vdh.virginia.gov\">contact our MRC Coordinator<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Three Rivers Health District Serves:\u00a0 Essex County, Mathews County, Gloucester County, Middlesex County, King William County, King &amp; Queen County, Richmond County, Lancaster County, Westmoreland County, Northumberland County<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three Rivers Medical Reserve Corps The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of locally led units of medical professionals and support volunteers.
