Mpox is a virus that causes lesions and rash among other symptoms\u2014it can be pretty painful and disruptive, but is typically not fatal. We already have a vaccine and therapeutics that can help prevent and treat mpox. Most, but not all, cases of mpox associated with the current 2022 outbreak have been identified in gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men (MSM).<\/p>\n

The risk to the general public is considered low at this time, but anyone, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, can get mpox if they have close contact with someone infected with the virus.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Richmond and Henrico Health Districts are offering mpox vaccinations to individuals who live, work, or spend time in Richmond and Henrico and are at higher risk of exposure or serious illness.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you think you may have mpox or may have been exposed to mpox\u2026<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

If you think you may have mpox or may have been exposed to someone with mpox, isolate yourself from others (and pets) and call your doctor or our Contact Center for next steps: 804-205-3500. If you cannot completely separate yourself from others, you should wear a well-fitting mask and cover areas where rash or sores are present.<\/span><\/p>\n
