Some suggested items to include in your kit include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7053 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/114\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-29-113630-241x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/114\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-29-113630-241x300.png 241w, https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/114\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-29-113630.png 455w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 241px) 100vw, 241px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water \u2013 One gallon per person, per day. Don\u2019t forget that your pets will need water, too!<\/li>\n<li>Food &#8211;\u00a0 The items you include should require minimal water and no refrigeration, preparation or cooking. They can happen quickly and without warning, and they can force you to evacuate your neighborhood or require you to shelter-in-place. When developing your Emergency Plan it is important to discuss the types of threats and hazards that could affect our area. It is also vital that you understand each person\u2019s needs and abilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaemergency.gov\/prepare\/make-a-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Virginia Department of Emergency Management<\/a> provides useful information on their website to assist you in developing your plan.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Step 3: Stay Informed<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-141\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/114\/2016\/09\/getakitstep3.jpg\" alt=\"getakitstep3\" width=\"204\" height=\"60\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Before, during and after a disaster, it is important that you are able to stay up-to-date with the latest information. Local media will convey instructions from government officials in the event of an emergency. A NOAA Weather Radio is recommended so that you are able to receive weather warnings directly from the National Weather Service.
