{"id":1249,"date":"2022-10-21T19:05:34","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T19:05:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/lord-fairfax\/?page_id=1249"},"modified":"2026-04-01T19:05:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T19:05:23","slug":"vital-records","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/lord-fairfax\/vital-records\/","title":{"rendered":"Vital Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Birth, Marriage,\u00a0and Divorce Certificates<\/h2>\n<p>Certified copies of birth, marriage and divorce certificates can be obtained from the Lord Fairfax Health District health departments for any of these events as long as they occurred in Virginia. \u00a0Copies of certificates can be obtained for and are available to immediate family members only \u2013 mother, father, husband, wife, child, brother, sister and grandparents with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2016\/07\/primary.pdf\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">valid ID<\/span><\/a>. Birth records can be issued to the legal guardian with proof of custody papers. Aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, etc. cannot obtain a Vital Record.<\/p>\n<p>All Vital records can also be obtained from the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/vital-records\/\">Virginia Department of Health, Division of Vital Records<\/a><\/span>, 2001 Maywill Street, Suite 101, Richmond, VA 23230. The general information number is 804-662-6200.<\/p>\n<p>Copies of marriage licenses can also be obtained from your county Clerk\u2019s\u00a0Office.<\/p>\n<h2>Death Certificates<\/h2>\n<p>Death certificates can be filed at, and certified copies obtained from any local department in the State of Virginia, regardless of where the death occurred in the State of Virginia.
