This is ultimately\u00a0 beneficial to employers as well.\u00a0 VDH supports workplace wellness by:<\/p>\n<p><b>Better food and drink choices<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VDH works with food service vendors and management companies to provide healthy food choices in vending machines, cafeterias, or other places where food is sold. We also encourage workplaces to create better practices to support healthy foods for meetings, celebrations, or fundraisers in the workplace.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/obesity\/downloads\/strategies\/Smart-Food-Choices-508.pdf\">Smart Food Choices: How to Implement Food Service Guidelines in Public Facilities<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cspinet.org\/protecting-our-health\/nutrition\/healthier-public-places\">Food and Nutrition Guidelines for Public Places<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/obesity\/strategies\/food-serv-guide.html\">CDC&#8217;s Healthy Food Service Guidelines Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Opportunities for physical activity<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting your body moving at work can help prevent and manage chronic diseases. We encourage programs that aim to increase employees access to physical activity<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Connection to Evidenced Based Programs in the workplace<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We offer evidence based nutrition and physical activity programs that prevent and manage chronic diseases. These programs include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/arthritis\/self-management-programs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walk with Ease<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/arthritis\/managing-arthritis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chronic Disease Management<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/diabetes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diabetes Prevention Program<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/arthritis\/self-management-programs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Breastfeeding Friendly Workplaces<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0VDH in partnership with the Virginia Breastfeeding Coalition (VBC) has a breastfeeding friendly workplace recognition program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program recognizes workplaces who support their breastfeeding employees, go above state and federal standards, and lead the way in worksite wellness. Some of the breastfeeding friendly criteria include lactation programs, breastfeeding policies, training for staff, and breastfeeding supportive benefits. The award has categories of bronze, silver, and gold.
