{"id":79,"date":"2016-09-06T20:35:34","date_gmt":"2016-09-06T20:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/eastern-shore\/?page_id=79"},"modified":"2025-09-09T15:29:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T15:29:17","slug":"emergency-preparedness-response-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/eastern-shore\/emergency-preparedness-response-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency Preparedness &amp; Response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Eastern Shore Health District gears itself to effectively respond to any emergency impacting public health through preparation, collaboration, education and rapid intervention.\u00a0 Our Emergency Preparedness and Response Program involves state, regional and local emergency response partners working together to enhance readiness to respond to bioterrorism,\u00a0infectious disease outbreaks,\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-191 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/NEHC2018a-300x116.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/NEHC2018a-300x116.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/NEHC2018a-768x298.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/NEHC2018a-1024x397.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>and other public health emergencies. \u00a0Funding to support these efforts is provided through grants from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-239 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/DSCN9668-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/DSCN9668-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/DSCN9668-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/78\/2019\/05\/DSCN9668-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The Eastern Shore Health District has a very successful Emergency Preparedness and Response Team.\u00a0 This team interacts with other local health care providers, State and County agencies, volunteer groups and private individuals during training exercises and actual emergencies.\u00a0 The District uses a Health Alert Network (HAN) in order to alert staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.\u00a0 If an emergency occurs, the District has the ability to send out an alert to all Health District employees and team members in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The Health District also has two very extensive volunteer programs:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fema.gov\/community-emergency-response-teams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CERT &#8211; Citizens Emergency Response Team<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/eastern-shore\/mrc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MRC \u2013 Eastern Shore Medical Reserve Corps<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Volunteers are accepted and trainings occur on a regular basis.\u00a0 Please call for more information.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">Contact:\u00a0 J.
