Mpox<\/h1>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p>Mpox spreads through close or personal contact.<\/p>\n<p>People with mpox often get a rash.\u00a0 The rash can occur on hands, feet, chest, face, mouth or near the genitals.\u00a0 They may have other symptoms like fever, chills, and swollen lymph nodes.<\/p>\n<p>People at higher risk are more likely to develop severe illness or need hospitalization.\u00a0 Those include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>People with weakened immune systems<\/li>\n<li>Children under the age of one year<\/li>\n<li>People with a history of eczema<\/li>\n<li>Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have mpox and have severe mpox symptoms, talk to your healthcare provider.\u00a0 They may recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mpox\/hcp\/clinical-care\/tecovirimat.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">medications<\/a> to help reduce your symptoms.<\/p>\n<h1>The Mpox Vaccine<\/h1>\n<p>Check to see if you should consider getting the mpox vaccine.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mpox\/vaccines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mpox vaccine<\/a> is safe and effective at preventing mpox.\u00a0 Be sure to get both doses of the vaccine for the best protection.\u00a0 It\u2019s not too late for your second dose \u2013 even if your first was in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>To get vaccinated, contact your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/health-department-locator\/\">local health department<\/a>.\u00a0 Local pharmacies or your healthcare provider may also have the vaccine.\u00a0 Before booking an appointment, contact them to make sure they carry the mpox vaccine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-13330-1\"
