However, vital records are not available on the first Friday of each month.<\/p>\n<p>Services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provides information and forms to utilize in securing birth certificates and establishments of paternity.\n<ul>\n<li>Birth certificates can be obtained through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/vital-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of Vital Records<\/a> in Richmond. It serves teen who live in the District, with a special focus on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/crater\/petersburg-clinic\/\">Petersburg<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/crater\/hopewell-clinic\/\">Hopewell<\/a>. Education sessions and counseling are provided in Petersburg and Hopewell Public Schools.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Space health educator and clinic nurse counsel teens under the age of 19 regarding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Safe sex<\/li>\n<li>Sexual coercion<\/li>\n<li>Healthy relationships<\/li>\n<li>Self esteem<\/li>\n<li>Career counseling<\/li>\n<li>Hygiene<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, this program includes clinical services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing contraception methods<\/li>\n<li>Pregnancy testing<\/li>\n<li>Referrals for pregnancies<\/li>\n<li>STI testing and treatment<\/li>\n<li>Sports physicals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Learn more about the program: <a href=\"http:\/\/johnrandolphfoundation.org\/blog-post\/healthspace-teen-clinic-makes-strides-in-reducing-teen-pregnancy\/\">HealthSpace Teen Clinic Makes Strides in Reducing Teen Pregnancy<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Immunizations\u2014Child and Adult<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Immunizations services for children and adults are available at all <a href=\"#lhd\">health department locations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We offer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Immunizations that are required for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/immunization\/requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">entry into schools<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Adult immunizations for tetanus, Hepatitis B, and other routine immunizations are provided throughout the year.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Flu immunizations clinics are provided in the fall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Maternity Services<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Crater offers full-service maternity care clinics with a nurse practitioner to qualifying mothers. Services are provided at all <a href=\"#lhd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health department locations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/crater\/mens-sexual-health\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Men&#8217;s Sexual Health Clinic\/ Monday Night Check Ups<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/crater\/petersburg-clinic\/\">Petersburg Health Department<\/a> men can get tested and treated for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV<\/li>\n<li>Men 18 years and older can get tested and treated for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.<\/li>\n<li>The clinical also offers education and counselling to help men understand STIs and practice safer behaviors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Nursing Home Pre-admission Screenings<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Individuals seeking Medicaid coverage of long-term care services can request an in-home assessment performed by a registered nurse and a social worker.<\/li>\n<li>Requests for screenings need to be made through the Department of Social Services (DSS).<\/li>\n<li>Contact your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dss.virginia.gov\/localagency\/\">local Department of Social Services<\/a> for an appointment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Testing and treating of sexually transmitted infections are provided at all <a href=\"#lhd\">health department locations<\/a> for men and women.<\/li>\n<li>Confidential HIV testing and counseling also is available.<\/li>\n<li>Testing of sexually transmitted infections may be chargeable and\/or billed to insurance.\n<ul>\n<li>Call your <a href=\"#lhd\">local health department<\/a> for questions about billing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/wic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>WIC\u2019s goal is to improve the health of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care. This is available at all <a href=\"#lhd\">local health department locations.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The program provides:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Screening and referrals to other health, welfare and social service agencies<\/li>\n<li>Nutrition education<\/li>\n<li>Breastfeeding promotion and support<\/li>\n<li>Supplemental nutritious food<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To be eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must meet categorical, residential, income and nutrition risk requirements.\u00a0 Learn more on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/wic\/\">VDH WIC Webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><strong><a id=\"health\"><\/a>Health &amp; Safety Programs\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/child-passenger-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Child Passenger Safety<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Child Passenger Safety Program promotes proper safety seat use for children.\u00a0 This program provides:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Education for safety seat use<\/li>\n<li>Safety seats to qualified applicants<\/li>\n<li>Presentations on child passenger safety<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Crater\u2019s program is based out of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/crater\/petersburg-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Petersburg Health Department<\/a>, call to apply and schedule a training appointment.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/family-home-visiting\/healthy-start-loving-steps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Healthy Start Loving Steps<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Healthy Start Loving Steps programs is offered through the City of Petersburg Health Department.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 Its goal\u00a0to reduce infant mortality and perinatal health disparities by delivering high-quality, effective prevention strategies to individuals, families and communities.<\/li>\n<li>The program strives to primarily serve African American and Hispanic families who are at highest risk for life stressors and loss during pregnancy and parenting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information about Loving Steps, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/family-home-visiting\/healthy-start-loving-steps\/\">Loving Steps webpage<\/a> or contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/crater\/petersburg-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Petersburg Health Departmen<\/a>t.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Crater Health District has a number of programs and services to protect the health and wellbeing of families.
