{"id":4736,"date":"2026-03-27T12:13:29","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T12:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/chesterfield\/?page_id=4736"},"modified":"2026-03-27T12:13:56","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T12:13:56","slug":"spring-break-immunizations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/chesterfield\/news-releases\/spring-break-immunizations\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Break Immunizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Beat the Back-To-School Rush: Get Your Child Immunized over Spring Break!<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Chesterfield Health District Holding Vaccination Clinics<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Setting your kids up for success this school year means making sure they have all the tools they need, including vaccines to protect against preventable diseases such as meningitis, measles, pertussis (whooping cough) and others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/chesterfield\/\">Chesterfield Health District<\/a> will offer state-required immunizations during special Spring Break vaccination clinics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chesterfield: March 31, April 1 and April 2 by appointment only during regular clinic hours. Call 804-748-1750.<\/li>\n<li>Powhatan: March 30 and 31 by appointment only during regular clinic hours. Call 804-598-5680.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please be sure to bring a copy of your child\u2019s vaccination record. If you don\u2019t have it, you can request the record <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/immunization\/request-immunization-record\/\">here<\/a>. If you have health insurance, please also bring your insurance card.<\/p>\n<p>The Commonwealth of Virginia requires <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/immunization\/requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">immunizations<\/a> for entry into kindergarten, seventh grade, and 12th grade. Students who do not get their immunizations will not be admitted to school.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping children up to date on vaccinations can reduce severe illnesses and unnecessary absences from school and work, saving your family time and money.<\/p>\n<p>The evidence shows vaccines are your child\u2019s best defense against infectious disease, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/measles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Measles<\/a>. The highly contagious disease that was declared eliminated in the year 2000 is experiencing a surge in the U.S. with more than 1,280 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/data-research\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cases reported<\/a> so far this year. This includes 14 cases in Virginia, nearly three times as many cases in all of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVaccines teach your body how to create an immune response,\u201d said LaWanda Dunn, nurse manager at the Chesterfield Health District. \u201cWhen exposed to the disease, it has the defenses necessary to fight the illness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) encourages parents to talk with their child\u2019s health care provider about recommended vaccinations. Vaccines are available through your pediatrician, pharmacies, and all local health departments. You will want to check in advance to see if appointments may be necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Children who are uninsured can still be vaccinated at low or no cost through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/immunization\/vvfc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia Vaccines for Children<\/a> (VVFC) program which offers free vaccines to eligible children. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/immunization\/vvfc\/locatevvfcprovider\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Locate A VVFC Provider<\/a> by simply entering your zip code on the VDH website.<\/p>\n<p>VDH encourages parents to make an appointment as soon as possible to save the stress of trying to find one last minute. As the school year draws near, appointments will no longer be available.
