They wish they had a guide to help them through it. This document is meant to be that guide. It helps you see what might happen next and gives you advice on what choices you might need to make and what to do next.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/156\/2023\/11\/4-Brain-Health-Fact-Sheets-2sides-Dementia-FINAL.pdf\">Virginia Dementia Road Map Flyer<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nMany families feel unsure about how to handle life when someone has dementia. This one-page document is a short guide that shows you the main things to think about and what to do next. It tells you what might happen, what choices you might need to make, and what you can do to help.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/156\/2024\/01\/Roadmap-Dementia-Caregiver-Toolkit-withflyers.pdf\"><strong>Caregiver Toolkit<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis Caregiver Toolkit was made from the Virginia Dementia Road Map: A Guide for people impacted by Dementia. It has tools and resources to help you care for your loved one, and tells you important things to think about and what to do next. It also explains what might happen, what choices you might need to make, and how you can help.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vcoa.chp.vcu.edu\/initiatives\/va-memory-project\/\"><strong>Virginia Dementia Registry: The Virginia Memory Project<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nA <a href=\"https:\/\/redcap.vcu.edu\/surveys\/?s=JDJRYYAP3WLTLT7Y\"><strong>survey<\/strong> <\/a>for all adults in Virginia about brain health, memory and caregiving. It is the first expansive web-based brain health registry in the Commonwealth. Your answers will help policymakers and public health workers prioritize resources for people with memory loss and caregivers in Virginia. <em>*Note all responses are kept anonymous.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vda.virginia.gov\/dementiacapableva.htm\"><strong>Dementia Capable Virginia<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\">Advance planning empowers people to make their own decisions about important topics like finances, health care, and living arrangements before the need arises. These guides should help people living with dementia and their family members or other care partners know what to plan for and how to get started.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vda.virginia.gov\/dementiacapableva.htm#Taking_Care\">Taking Care, A Resource Guide for Caregivers<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vda.virginia.gov\/dementiacapableva.htm#Advance_Planning\">Advance Planning for People Living with Dementia<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/156\/2023\/06\/Virginia-Area-Agency-on-Aging-Directory.pdf\">Virginia Area Agency on Aging Directory<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nContact your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for more information on resources available in your community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nia.nih.gov\/health\/tips-living-alone-early-stage-dementia\"><strong>National Institute on Aging: Tips for Living Alone With Early Stage Dementia<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nLots of people with early-stage dementia can still do their everyday activities. But it\u2019s good to think about when these tasks might become trickier. The earlier you start using new ways to help you deal with changes, the more time you'll have to get used to them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/arthritis\/chronic-disease\/\"><strong>Chronic Disease Self-Management Education<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nLed by trained Peer Leaders from the Self-Management Resource Center, this workshop helps people learn how to deal with symptoms and medicines, talk with family and doctors, handle tough feelings, relax, eat healthy, exercise, and set goals each week to get healthier and live better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alz.org\/alzheimers-dementia\/research_progress\/clinical-trials\/trialmatch\"><strong>The Alzheimer\u2019s Association TrialMatch\u00ae<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nA free, easy-to-use clinical studies matching service that connects individuals living with Alzheimer\u2019s disease, caregivers and healthy volunteers with current research studies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alz.org\/help-support\/caregiving\/care-options\"><strong>Alzheimer's Association: Care Options<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nNeeds evolve at various stages of the disease, and each family's circumstances are unique.
