DESCRIPTION:Mental Health & Dementia\n\n\n\n\nThis Care Partner Training will explore the critical relationship between mental health and dementia in older adults. It delves into how conditions like depression\, anxiety\, and stress can influence the onset and progression of dementia. We will will learn about the challenges in differentiating between mental health issues and dementia symptoms\, and the importance of comprehensive evaluation in making accurate diagnoses. We will also highlight strategies for improving the well-being of older adults by addressing mental health concerns and offering early intervention techniques\, fostering a holistic approach to dementia care. \nThis class will be held both virtually and in-person in Fairfax. Please select your attendance type when you register. \nThe in-person session will be held in the Mazawey Education and Support Center\, 3955 Pender Drive\, Suite 100\, Fairfax\, VA 22030. \nVirtual attendees will receive Zoom information prior to the class. \nThis program is a part of our monthly Care Partner Training series. All sessions are FREE\, and held the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. \nSign Up\nIn Person\nVirtual \n\nPresenter\nDr. Emmi Scott\, PhD \nDr. Emmi Scott is a fellowship-trained clinical neuropsychologist with specialization in neurodegenerative diseases\, particularly memory disorders and movement disorders at Inova. Prior to joining Inova\, she practiced as an assistant professor of neurology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. \nAs a neuropsychologist\, Dr. Scott sees adult patients who have concerns about memory loss or cognitive changes\, as well as those with established neurodegenerative or neurological conditions. In addition to her expertise in cognitive disorders\, Dr. Scott has a weekly clinic for individuals with functional neurological disorders\, including functional movement disorders and nonepileptic seizures\, where she offers consultation and treatment services.

DESCRIPTION:Dementia Capable Care Specialist (DCC) Training\n\n\n\n\nDementia Capable Care (DCC) is an evidence-based dementia and behavior training program designed for health care workers that makes a sustainable impact. \nEarners can apply specialized approaches using Dementia Care Specialists at Crisis Prevention Institute’s (CPI) Dementia Capable Care Model to:\n(a) optimize function\, safety\, and quality of life through person-centered and cognitively supportive approaches using Allen Cognitive Levels and Model\n(b) apply CPI’s Crisis Development Model℠ to prevent and de-escalate distress behaviors and\n(c) support families. \nEarners of this designation are leaders in a dementia capable workforce and advocates of a Dementia Capable Society. \nCost is $200 per person. \nThis course is a hybrid format. Learners will complete a 4 hour online class prior to the in person class.
